The navigation practical sessions cover essential aspects and ensure that aspiring skippers understand and can apply critical knowledge for safe navigation. They are divided into the following key topics:

  • Safety and Pre-Navigation Preparations: Familiarize yourself with safety equipment, review critical aspects of the vessel, and verify conditions before setting sail.
  • Engine Operation: Identification and handling of propulsion system components, startup procedures, and verification of the engine’s proper functioning.
  • Ropework: Basic techniques for handling ropes and performing essential knots.

  • Anchoring and Monitoring: Anchoring techniques, position and route control, and special considerations to avoid interference with swimmers and divers.

Obtaining the navigation license is a crucial step toward independence on the water, but it comes with the responsibility of fully absorbing and applying the knowledge taught during the training. During the practical sessions, it is essential to adopt an active and open attitude to learning both the theoretical and practical aspects provided by the instructor.

It is natural to feel some initial uncertainty, especially since the maritime environment may be new to many. Boats require an adaptation period to respond effectively to commands, particularly at low speeds and in high-traffic areas such as ports.

The ability to operate a vessel independently after obtaining the license depends largely on how quickly the student assimilates the knowledge and adapts to this new environment. For those who wish to reinforce their confidence and skills, our school offers private lessons individually and in small groups. These sessions focus on essential manoeuvres such as docking, undocking, and anchoring, ensuring a comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience.

Ultimately, the decision to navigate independently depends on each student’s level of preparation and confidence.

Yes, having children on board with the navigation license is entirely possible. However, ensuring that all children wear life jackets appropriate for their size and weight is essential to guarantee their safety.
